Walter Jakubowski is a photographic artist specializing in abstract imagery that suggests a story. The story is that which is created in the mind of the viewer in response to the “painterly images that spark the imagination. The compositions intimate an ambience that is emotionally vibrant, mysterious and full of drama, blurring the distinction between photography and compositional poetic design. They are purely abstract, presenting elements of color, texture and ambiguous forms.”

Walter attended Alfred State College where he received a degree in Engineering Science. He also briefly attended Alfred University to study Painting and Photography. Using the camera to capture compositional studies he realized that Photography was his primary creative medium.

I have considered myself primarily a landscape photographer ever since I fell in love with the camera. Eventually I ventured into large format photography when I first saw the stunning imagery large format film can provide. My vision in Nature landscape work was influenced strongly by the work of Elliot Porter and the artistry of Maxfield Parrish and Ernst Haas, whom I had the privilege to partake in a workshop in 1996.

His professional career in the engineering field took an abrupt turn as an Industrial Design Surface Sculptor which was more artistically creative. Post retirement he intently pursues his first love, Photographic Art.

Walter currently resides in upstate NY with his wife, performing artist Gretchen Sepik, two dogs, Buddy and Riggly and two cats, Tig and Willy.

Yes, this picture is not recent but it is the only one I have of myself with my Deardorff view camera with which I captured most of my Nature landscape images here. I have since departed with this wonderful photographic instrument.
